Ready for a journey from source to sea? The Annandale Way is a stunning 56-mile long-distance route that follows the River Annan from high in the Moffat Hills near the iconic Devil’s Beef Tub to the sandy beaches of the Solway Firth. Trace the path of the river through Dumfries & Galloway, exploring dramatic landscapes, rolling farmlands, and historic market towns.

With beautifully varied landscapes, the route is ideal for hikers craving choice. Starting in Moffat, it’s easy to extend your stay to explore the Southern Upland hills, or to head further along the coast once you reach Annan. Even along the route there are two paths to choose from.

The Two Arms of Annandale

For full flexibility, the Annandale Way offers two distinct ‘arms’ that split and rejoin south of the Moffat Hills.

The western route through Lochmaben is more strenuous, with a rewarding climb over Almagill Hill offering vast views.

The eastern route is slightly shorter and gentler, taking in Lockerbie and the surrounding woodlands.
