The Royal Burgh of Annan comes alive in the summer. Enjoy the historic Riding of the Marches and the annual bagpipe festival. The town takes its name from the River Annan and originated as a river port in 14th century. With links to famous names like Robert the Bruce and Robert Burns, Annan has a fascinating story to tell.

The western approach affords a spectacular view of the town. It includes the almost 200 year-old Annan Bridge with its graceful arches was built by Robert Stevenson.

The Annandale Distillery re-opened in 2014 after 95 years. And in 2018, it released its first single malt in over 100 years. This, the first distillery in Scotland, is the ambitious project of a local entrepreneur. It offers a full visitor experience at the start of a whisky trail. The coffee shop is worth a visit in its own right!
