About Moffat

Moffat is a bustling town on the River Annan, minutes from the A74 road. With a population of around 2,500, it was once a centre of the wool trade and a spa town. This history is commemorated by the Ram Statue on the high street. The Devil’s Beef Tub, a dramatic hollow in ground north of the town, was once used to hide stolen cattle by the Border Reivers of the Johnstone clan.

Moffat was Europe’s first Dark Sky Town and has inputted special street lighting to keep light pollution to a minimum in order to preserve the clarify of night sky here. The town is filled with a great variety of independent shops, places to eat and accomodation.
