Borders Greenway Cycle Route

The Borders Greenway cycle route offers an approximate 48-mile journey across mostly quiet roads, linking communities between Tweedbank railway station in the west and Eyemouth harbour in the east. Developed as a series of existing routes, the journey can be divided into seven main sections travelling from west to east. The first section runs from Tweedbank to Earlston, taking cyclists past sights such as the Leaderfoot Viaduct when viewed from the former road bridge.

From Earlston, the route continues toward Gordon, passing near Mellerstain House along quiet roads. The next leg travels from Gordon to Greenlaw, featuring minor roads that pass historic locations like Hume Castle. Cyclists then proceed from Greenlaw to Duns, crossing the footbridge over the Langton Burn near Gavinton.

Moving further east, the route leads from Duns to Chirnside, bringing riders near the Whiteadder close to Todheugh. The journey continues from Chirnside to Reston along quiet roads near Lintlaw, passing original station signs from routes closed in 1964 as well as the new railway station opened in July 2022. The final section runs from Reston to Eyemouth, following minor roads toward Ayton before reaching the coast at Eyemouth harbour.

While the continuous ride of the entire route covers about 48 miles on direct paths, or 56.7 miles when including the optional connecting links into Gordon, Chirnside, and Reston, cyclists can choose to ride individual sections or the whole route using available GPX files and maps.
