About Newcastleton

Newcastleton is nestled in the valley of Liddesdale 4 miles from the Scotland England Border.

Five hundred years ago the hills would be ringing with the sound of clashing steel and fighting Border Reivers. Today you will find a vibrant village where the warmest welcome awaits and where a strong sense of community is at the very heart of Newcastleton, or ‘Copshaw Holm’ as it is known by locals.

The small community of just 750 people work together to offer an abundance of fresh and unique visitor experiences. This special place offers a haven of tranquility set amidst breathtaking wilderness, where visitors can get off the beaten track, take their time to explore landscapes, nature, culture and really live like a local.

With superb 7stanes Mountain biking trails, an outdoor activity centre, road cycling, walking, a community-owned golf course offering some of the best views in the south of Scotland, there is something for everyone. Polysport, the community-owned sports facility has tennis courts, an astroturf, a gym and playing fields.

The stunning scenery will encourage you to get out walking in the hills, countryside, or Newcastleton forest where you will enjoy spotting wildlife along the way - don’t forget your camera. There are 12 way-marked walking routes that leave from the village.

The village offers a wide range of places to stay, eat and drink, with something to suit everyone and every budget. Including the contemporary community-owned Newcastleton Bunkhouse which is perfect for groups of walkers and bikers or family and friend get-togethers. The bunkhouse is the latest chapter in big things that this small community has achieved; community-owned fuel pumps, a recharging station, Community Hub, and Laundry, and the community buy out of Holm Hill; 750 acres of land now in community ownership. A small new woodland has already been planted with more planned, all of which can be enjoyed for generations to come.

We look forward to welcoming you to enjoy our special place.
