The town takes its name from the River Annan and originated as a river port in 14th century. With links to famous names like Robert the Bruce and Robert Burns, Annan has a fascinating story to tell.

The western approach affords a spectacular view of the town. It includes the almost 200 year-old Annan Bridge with its graceful arches was built by Robert Stevenson.

The Annandale Distillery re-opened in 2014 after 95 years. And in 2018, it released its first single malt in over 100 years. This, the first distillery in Scotland, is the ambitious project of a local entrepreneur. It offers a full visitor experience at the start of a whisky trail. The coffee shop is worth a visit in its own right!
