Walking Route

Black and Well Hills from Durisdeer

Walking

Please park sensitively beside Durisdeer Church. From there, walk up the signposted Core Path. There is a choice to either take the made-up estate track or a more overgrown Roman Road.

The newer track passes the Roman Camp on the way back. The hills are steep and grassy but provide good views.

Walkers can also visit the graveyard where there is a commemoration to Covenanters killed close by and the mausoleum in the church, of the Dukes of Buccleuch. This was carved from imported Italian white marble.
