About Winkston Hill Farm

Enjoy a glamping getaway at our Shepherds Cabin located on a friendly working farm in the Scottish Borders – based in the rural countryside, yet close enough to enjoy the local sights and activities.

We offer a unique self-catering experience that sleeps 2-4 individuals with an open plan layout (living/dining/kitchen) as well as outdoor facilities (hot shower & eco-friendly compost toilet).

An ideal base for couples, families or friends in a relaxed, cosy and comfortable environment!

With plenty of walks and wildlife to be enjoyed on your doorstep, it is a perfect getaway for couples, families or friends in a cosy, comfortable environment and an ideal base for adventure or relaxation … or both!

The Shepherds Cabin sleeps 2 - 4 individuals and can be configured to either 4 x full-size individual bunk beds or alternatively, to a super king-size bed at either mezzanine or ground level – just let us know your preference!

The open plan layout consists of a sleeping, living, dining and kitchenette area. In addition to the refreshing outdoor hot shower and eco-friendly compost toilet, there is a separate indoor bathroom with sink, toilet and walk-in shower.

The kitchen area is supplied with cutlery, crockery and basic cooking equipment (i.e. kettle, toaster, microwave, hot plate, slow cooker, foreman grill). There is also a fridge with a freezer component. Full bedding and towels are provided.

The Cabin is south facing, filled with natural daylight and the outdoor seating area can be a lovely sun trap if the Scottish weather permits. There is an outdoor dining/seating area for 4 with chimenea and BBQ facilities available.

The local historic town of Peebles is just a few minutes’ drive away and provides access to a variety of sights, activities, shops, restaurants, pubs and takeaways.

At the same time the Cabin is in a secluded location, it is only 100m from the A703 making it convenient for direct access to Peebles, neighbouring Scottish Borders villages, as well as Edinburgh (approx. 40 minutes). The nearest bus stop is 500m away and taxi companies are available in nearby Peebles.

Bring wellies or walking boots to explore the scenic countryside with fantastic walks / woodland on your doorstep and surrounding area, as well as plenty of animals and wildlife to appreciate.

There is plenty of wildlife in the immediate area and you are likely to see pheasant, partridge, buzzards, sparrowhawks, herons, lapwings, curlews, oystercatchers and on the odd occasion an eagle or osprey from local nesting sites.

For the mountain biking enthusiasts, we can offer secure bike storage as well as direct off-road access to Glentress Forest.

We are happy to provide farm tours which gives you an opportunity to enjoy nature, explore the stunning countryside and meet some of our farm animals (sheep, cows, horses, goats, ducks, hens) and can provide more information on further enquiry. Fresh eggs from the Farm can also be provided.

This is a retreat without TV or WIFI, however there is a mobile phone signal and a TV/DVD player - we provide a small selection of DVDs or feel free to bring your own. You are also welcome to use the WIFI at the Farmhouse if desperate.

Other Notes:

As much as we love our four-legged friends, unfortunately we are unable to accommodate them as this is a working farm and the Cabin is often surrounded by livestock.

The Cabin is located beside a stream so please ensure children are supervised

Unfortunately this home is not suitable for infants

Please note that the outdoor shower will not be operational during the winter months (water supply can freeze) however an indoor walk-in shower is also available.

Non smoking
