About The Old Mill

Sitting proudly amongst the foothills of the rolling Cheviot hills, The Old Mill is a uniquely-constructed eco house, built with straw bales and stylishly clad with timber. Set in expansive garden grounds and offering spacious accommodation for up to 8 guests near the peaceful hamlet of Hownam near Kelso (10 miles), The Old Mill offers a rural haven for everyone.

This well-loved family home boasts an open plan layout on the ground floor, inviting guests to spread out and cook, eat and relax together. There is also a spacious ground floor double bedroom, attractive to those with mobility limitations. All of the bedrooms have been lovingly named after the nearby rivers of Kale, Teviot, Tweed, Hownam Burn and Bowmont Water.

Even outside, the theme of water continues as you sit on the verandah and listen to the babbling burn travelling through the garden whilst watching the wonderful visiting birdlife.

The historic Border towns of Kelso (10 miles), Melrose (23 miles) and Hawick (20 miles) are all within easy driving distance and all offer attractions, amenities and popular eateries. For those looking to eat closer to home, why not sample the delights of Templehall Hotel in Morebattle (3 miles)?

In the words of its owners, The Old Mill is a wonderful place to stay and a hard place to leave. And quite rightly so.
