About The Moffat Community Observatory

Moffat is Europe's very first Dark Sky town and is home to The Moffat Community Observatory which was officially opened in October 2021. The team at the observatory run bookable Introduction to Astronomy sessions.

This is a fantastic astronomical resource for visitors and the community. Constructed of two log cabins and a three-metre diameter dome, the observatory houses a professional telescope offering beautiful views of various night sky objects.

Moffat will on average have about 2 nights every week suitable for viewing the night sky. Sessions must be booked in advance and a volunteer will guide you through your viewing of the night sky. There is no charge for the sessions but donations are welcome.
