About Swinton

Swinton is a small village, approximately 3 miles from the Scottish border with England. It dates to the 11th century and was re-designed with a market created in 1769. This is now marked by the market cross. Swinton is strongly associated with the Swinton family, who took their name from the settlement. The family's residence, Swinton House lies a mile west of the village and dates in its current form to 1800.
