Stobo Japanese Water Gardens

Parks & Gardens, Scenic Views
The Stobo Japanese Water Garden was created over a hundred years ago and is a serene and tranquil hidden gem in the grounds of Stobo Castle.

About Stobo Japanese Water Gardens

Inspired by a stopover in Japan in 1895, Hylton Philipson the then owner of Stobo Castle created a peaceful and relaxing Japanese garden complete with dainty stepping stones, pretty humpback bridges, stunning waterfalls and specialist trees and shrubs including acers. The Japanese lanterns and a charming teahouse remains well maintained and add a Zen-like calm to the experience. The gardens are beautiful all year round but really come to life in late spring/summer with rhododendrons and azaleas in full bloom. The path leading there has some stone steps which might be tricky for those with mobility issues and sturdy shoes are recommended.
