About St Abbs
St Abbs is a remote but beautiful fishing village on the southeastern coast of Scotland.The village was originally known as Coldingham Shore with its current name deriving from a rocky promontory located to the north of the village with the same name.
The first settlement of St Abbs occurred in in the mid 18th century, all centered around the fishing industry. Today the areas main industry is still fishing but now tourism plays a large role with many visitors coming to scuba dive in the clear waters surrounding the village. These seas are home to Britain's first Voluntary Marine Reserve established on 18 August 1984 by David Bellamy Sea angling, sub-aqua diving, bird-watching are also popular activities in St Abbs.
On 5 September 1914, a British ship, HMS Pathfinder ,was sunk off St Abbs Head and was the first Royal Navy ship to be sunk by a German U-boat.
