About Rusko Castle

Rusko Castle was originally part of the Glenskyreburn estate and was built around 1500 for Mariota Carson and Robert Gordon, her husband. The tower was used primarily to incarcerate people the family deemed appropriate, starting with Robert Gordon's rivals, and later Mariota herself when she was imprisoned in the tower by her son after remarrying after Robert's death. The Gordon's sold the tower in the 17th century and, over the following years, the building fell into disrepair until 1970's, when it was designated a Cat A Listed Building and renovated by a private buyer. The house is now a domestic dwelling, used to this day.
