About River and Woodland Walk

This short route explores the environs of Newcastleton itself and is attractive at all times of the year. Among the birds you might see along the riverside path past the Liddel Water are dipper, pied wagtail, oystercatcher and heron. There are lovely wild flowers in spring including bluebells, and the summer birds include woodpeckers. The 2 miles/3.2 kms walk is along generally good paths. Boots or strong shoes recommended. Public toilets are situated in Langholm Street, just off Douglas Square.
