About Ogilvie Cairn

Will H Ogilvie was born at Holefield farm on 21st August 1869. and is a Scottish-Australian poet.
This was one of Ogilvie’s favourite places and a regular outing from Kirklea for the family. When Will died, his ashes were scattered in this beautiful border countryside. Wattle leaves from the Australian bush were scattered with them. It was here, some 30 years after his death, that a cairn was erected in his memory. The cairn was re-erected on this site to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of his birth in August 2019.
