Glenluce

About Glenluce

The rural village of Glenluce is situated 15 miles west of Newton Stewart, by the Water of Luce. The village is well known for the 12th century Glenluce Abbey, which also houses the Museum of Monastic Life. The village also houses the ruins of one of the three Cistercian monasteries in the southwest and the 13th-century wizard and alchemist Michael Scott lived at Glenluce for a time.


Glenluce is the starting point of the signposted Pilgrim Way, a 50-mile route that leads to the Isle of Whithorn. The area is popular for salmon and sea trout fishing and has a nice variety of shops, hotels, and other services.
