About Ettrick Water Circular - South

Follow the banks of the Ettrick Water out to Philiphaugh Estate and visit the Cauld, fish-ladder and hydro-power system; return by the old mill lade. The site of the Battle of Philiphaugh is interpreted through a series of interesting boards on the extension of this walk but the path can be very muddy. The route is 3.5 miles/5.5 kms along narrow paths, pavements and track and will take between 1-2 hours. Boots or strong shoes needed in wet conditions. Wild flowers and many birds including sandpipers, dippers and the occasional kingfisher can be seen beside the path.
