About Cocklawfoot

Cocklawfoot is a remote farm, at the head of the Bowmont Valley, deep in the Cheviot Hills. It is predominantly a sheep farm and produces wool and lamb. It was in these hills that the Cheviot breed of sheep originated and, to herd them, a distintive breed of dog developed – the Border Collie.
Will Ogilvie spent some time as a University Lecturer in Iowa in the early part of the twentieth century. One day, when he was reading a Scottish newspaper, the name caught his eye and inspired this beautiful poem, - Cocklawfoot
