Two self-catering cottages set within a cobblestone courtyard

About Cairnsmore Cottages

We offer 2 distinct cottages within a cobbled quadrangle which form part of the original 250 year old stable block on the private Cairnsmore Estate near Newton Stewart. Sitting at the foot of Cairnsmore of Fleet and bordering the Cairnsmore National Nature Reserve, Cairnsmore Cottages are quietly situated in unusual surroundings and provide opportunity for a real ‘get away from it all’ holiday. These listed cottages offer a fabulous location in which to both relax and explore this beautiful, peaceful, and often forgotten, corner of Scotland. Both Cairnsmore Stable Cottage and Tackroom Cottage are renovated and refurbished to a high standard and offer an eclectic mix of the old and contemporary, in preserving the character of a bygone age with the comforts of modern day living. Each utilises renewable energy and underfloor heating In addition to the welcoming ambience of log-burning stoves, flagstone floors and comfortable furnishings and showcasing artwork from local artists.
Galloway offers our visitors a scenic treasure trove of rugged hills, lochs, forests, estuaries, coastal walks and market towns. There are many opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts and those who like to explore local areas. From ‘themed’ towns such as Newton Stewart - “Gateway to the Galloway Hills’, to the ‘Food Town’ of Castle Douglas and The “Artist’s Town’ of Kirkcudbright, to history, local folklore and local produce, there is something for everyone. Newton Stewart also hosts our own wee gem of the Art Noveau cinema, seating less than 400 people and offering the latest films as well as seasonal stage shows. Not to mention the local gin distillery!
