About Abbey Row Community Centre

This building, designed for use as a school, was built in 1876 on the site of an earlier Grammar School, attended by a young Sir Walter Scott. The building now serves as the local Community Centre. In front of you, beside the Abbey Centre, you will see the graveyard with many old gravestones. This continued in use after the destruction of the Abbey, since the western end of the building was utilised as a parish church. The car par know occupies what may be the eastern limit of the graveyard.
