The Solway Coast is a great place to start a road biking tour, especially if you’re with your family as you can pick and choose which sections you’d like to explore. For a challenger, head to the Ettrick and Ale Water Valleys – the hills will work you hard, but the views are worth the trouble.

And those comfortable with sharing the road with cars should definitely tackle the Kirkpatrick C2C route – it can be done in a challenging four days or at a more leisurely pace of eight days. There are spur routes to add on too so plenty to keep you busy!
