About Abbotsford

Abbotsford, the home of Sir Walter Scott, is situated on the banks of the River Tweed in the beautiful Scottish Borders. In 2021 & 2022 Scotland celebrates Scott's 250th anniversary, the ‘Great Scott’ who popularised tartan, saved the Scottish banknote, rediscovered his country’s Crown Jewels and, through a string of best-selling books that dominated the 19th century, changed how the world saw Scotland and Scotland saw itself.

Visitors can learn about Scott's life & achievements with guided & self-guided tours of the historic house and gardens, browse the exhibition, shop for souvenirs in the gift shop, dine in the cafe, stay in 5-star accommodation or simply relax as they wander through the beautiful walled gardens and estate. They can also view relics belonging to St. John Henry Newman in the chapel.
