St Cuthbert’s Way – Harestanes to Yetholm

Walking

Leaving Harestanes, St. Cuthbert’s Way crosses the Monteviot Suspension Bridge and meanders along the River Teviot to Jedfoot.

Rejoining the historic Dere Street, the trail winds through bluebell woods and fertile farmland toward Cessford. Here, you can explore the ruins of Cessford Castle, a formidable 15th-century stronghold once belonging to the Ker clan.

After restocking supplies in the village of Morebattle, the route climbs via Grubbit Law to the summit of Wideopen Hill. At 369m, this is the highest point on the trail and the official midpoint between Melrose and Holy Island. After pausing to enjoy the panoramic views back toward the Eildon Hills, descend into Town Yetholm and Kirk Yetholm, both renowned for their walker-friendly accommodation and hospitality.
