Melrose to Lauder

Walking Route

Melrose to Lauder

Walking

This route is one of 12 sections of the Southern Upland Way. Starting in the historic town of Melrose you will start by crossing the River Tweed on the Gattonside suspension bridge.

You will then follow the river for some way before heading up into farmland on quiet roads and tracks. This pleasant landscape continues right through to the small historic town of Lauder.

With a few shops for supplies and a pub this is a good place to stop. Out the other side of the town is Thirlestane Castle which you may have time to visit after this short section. This dramatic country house is open to the public and has a tea room in the grounds.
