Longformacus to Cockburnspath

Walking Route

Longformacus to Cockburnspath

Walking

This route is one of 12 sections of the Southern Upland Way. At first you will be following the path through a mixture of farmland and woodland.

You then head into woodland alongside the Whiteadder Water that flows down to the Village of Abbey St Bathans. Here there is a cafe to stop at before you continue through the mixed scenic landscape towards the coast.

Your first sight of the North Sea will be as you come out of Penmansheil Woods and go down a small road towards Pease Bay. This large sandy beach is a popular tourist site but you won’t be heading towards to beach. You will go up onto the cliffs heading north towards the rocky and atmospheric Cove Harbour.

Finally you turn back inland and head into the village of Cockburnspath. The war memorial in the centre of the village will mark the end of your adventure.
