About The Swallow Theatre

A friendly greeting awaits visitors to Scotland’s smallest theatre.

With a capacity of between 36 and 50 seats this fully equipped miniature theatre offers a curated programme of professional drama, music and other events. The theatre welcomes actors and musicians from all over the world, and many return year after year - such is their love of this one-of-a-kind performance space.

Established 25 years ago, in a converted cow byre, in the owners' garden, the privately owned Swallow Theatre is a unique, magical and intimate venue in which to see a show. Every seat is close enough to the stage to see the tears in an actor's eyes, or to watch the fingers of a superb musician in action.

Before your chosen show, join us in our bar/foyer for fair-trade coffee or tea, wine, locally produced beer, interesting soft drinks, and Cream O’Galloway ice cream. You can also take a wander or sit in our organic, permaculture inspired wildlife garden, where occasionally events are also presented.

The Swallow Theatre is located in the picturesque Machars peninsular in the south-west of the Dumfries and Galloway region. It is situated in a rural location three miles from the nearest village.

Whether you are a first-time visitor or a theatre regular, a local resident or a tourist, you are assured of a warm welcome, a magical environment and a high quality performance. We look forward to welcoming you to Scotland’s smallest professional theatre.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.swallowtheatre.co.uk or by phone on 01988 850368. We accept credit and debit cards and there are no additional booking charges. We encourage you to book early.
