About Scottish Borders Archive and Internment Research Centre

The Heritage Hub, purpose built in 2006 incorporating the surviving towers of the 19th century Hawick Corn Exchange, is home to the Scottish Borders Archive, which is part of Live Borders, a charitable organisation delivering leisure and cultural solutions across the Scottish Borders. Our collections cover over 800 years of Scottish Borders history including local government, textiles, sport, agriculture, schools, churches, and traditions.

Our online catalogue, Borders Collections Online, is an ever growing resource and is the first step to accessing physical and digital records, local reference books, and newspaper archives. Please visit our website for more information (see our contact information).

We are also the south of Scotland's only Scotland's People Centre, an essential resource for Scottish genealogy. For £15.00 a day you can personally access over 50 million Scottish family history records, including modern births, marriages, and deaths that are not available via the online version of the resource. If you would like help with your enquiry, we also offer one-to-one genealogy consultations (charged at an hourly rate).

In addition, our Internment Research Centre resource includes over 1,800 books, records, newspaper clippings, and photographs, relating predominantly to Stobs Military Camp, which housed soldiers in training, civilian detainees, and prisoners of war between 1903 and the 1920s. More information about the Centre can be found on the project website: https://www.stobscamp.org/irc/.

To make the most of your time with us, we do ask that you get in touch to book in advance.

If you’re unable to visit us, we also offer a paid Remote Research Service. Let us know what you’re looking for, and we will do the research for you and report back to you with our findings. You can find more information about this service on our website.

Please get in touch if you would like more information about any aspect of our resources or facilities, or if you would be interested in making a donation.
