About The Great Polish Map of Scotland

The sculpture was the creation of Jan Tomasik, a Polish seargent who married a local Scottish girl. Tomasik later became a hotelier and owned Barony Castle. It took six summers to build the 50 metres by 40 metres sculpture. The hotel closed in 1985 and the sculpture was neglected and heavily overgrown, almost hidden from sight. In 2010, a volunteer group Mapa Scotland was formed to save it from further decay and to restore it to its former condition.
