Smugglers Trail

Outdoor Activities
The Smuggler's Trail is a route retracing the history of smugglers from the 1750s on the Berwickshire coast.

About Smugglers Trail

Gunsgreen House is nicknamed "the Smuggler's Palace" due to it's owner John Nisbet being at the centre of smuggling operations in Eyemouth in the 1750s. Visitors can learn about the smugglers' stories and the history of the house in the museum within Gunsgreen House. The Smuggler's Trail Circular Walk from Gunsgreen House takes you out to hidden coves and beaches along the coast favoured by smugglers looking for places with "alternative uses". There are also longer trails favoured by the smugglers passing through farmland and woodlands from Eyemouth to Burnmouth, Eyemouth to St Abb’s Head and St Abb’s Head to Cove.
