You will be able to come to the viewpoint from Melrose and St Boswells to admire the stunning view of the River Tweed and Eildon Hills. The hills serve as a reminder of the volcanic activity that once took place in the area.

The flat piece of land that lies within a loop in the river was once the site of the first Melrose Abbey, of which nothing remains today.

This was Sir Walter's favourite view of the Borderland; the triple Elidons, the site of the Celtic monastery of Old Melrose, the Cheviots round to the Gala Water hills. Every time Sir Walter was riding on this road, he would stop his horse to admire the view The story goes that his favourite horse which was leading his funeral cortege to Dryburgh Abbey, stopped naturally here because always do so
