About Sanquhar

Sanquhar is an exciting market town on the River Nith, north of Thornhill and west of Moffat. It is popular with visitors, as it has many attractions, including the ruined Sanquhar Castle. This is located on the southern approach to Sanquhar and was built by the Crichton family in the 13th century. Another popular place to visit is the Crawick Multiverse, a swirling landscape art instalment designed by Charles Jenks. In the centre of the town is the 18th century tollbooth, which has been turned into a museum for visitors to discover how the people of Upper Nithsdale lived and worked in times past. There are plenty of places to eat, drink and shop in Sanquhar.
