About Robert Burns Mausoleum

Robert Burns was buried in a simple grave in St Michael’s churchyard in 1796 but visitors struggled to find it. Friends and admirers of his work gave donations to fund a grand mausoleum where the Bard was reburied in 1815. The white structure with its green copper dome now stands out clearly among the many elaborate sandstone memorials in the churchyard.

The interior of the mausoleum is open Monday to Saturday from April to September at 11.15 and 2.15. At other times, access to the Mausoleum can be arranged through Burns House (either a visit in person or by phoning 01387 255297) or by emailing Dumfries Museum.

The exterior of the mausoleum can be seen at all times and there is an information panel outside.
