About Queensberry Monument

In this square, carters of yesteryear would have congregated before setting out for nearly parishes and beyond. Here Burns would have paraded with the Dumfries Volunteers. The monument, designed by the notable architect Robert Adam, was moved in 1934 to a location in front of the county buildings in English Street. However, it was returned to the square in 1990 after the town centre was pedestrianised.
