Paxton House

Visitor Attractions
Paxton House is a Georgian mansion overlooking the River Tweed set in 80 acres of grounds on the border of England and Scotland 4 miles from Berwick upon Tweed.

About Paxton House

Overlooking the beautiful River Tweed, Paxton House lies at the heart of 80 acres of riverside, woodland, parkland and gardens. Paxton House was built between 1758 and 1767, to the design of John and James Adam. This Palladian country house boasts a fine collection of over 100 pieces of Chippendale furniture, Regency furniture by William Trotter and a magnificent collection of 18th Century costume brought back by Patrick Home from his time at the Court of Frederick the Great as well as over 70 paintings from the National Galleries of Scotland.
Visitors can enjoy a variety of walks and trails through the gardens and grounds or take a boat trip up the river Tweed, which goes under the historic Chain Bridge (subject to tides and weather.) Paxton House has picnic areas, an adventure play park, den building area, community garden and runs a variety of children's activities and seasonal event days.
There are three holiday lets, five glamping pods and a thirty pitch caravan park in the Walled Garden, quiet and restful spots from which to enjoy the local area.
With all this plus the Georgian Waterwheel, Gift Shop, Stables Tearoom, the Ellem Fishing Museum and an ever changing exhibition programme, Paxton House is not just an historic country house but a fantastic day out for all the family.
