Palnackie is a village in the parish of Buittle, with a population of approximately 250. It has been a working port on the Water of Urr since 1603, when millstones quarried near Castle Point were brought by raft for shipment to Glasgow. Ships used the banks of the river to moor until 1850s when the quay walls were built. Palnackie is also home to the Grande Internationale World Flounder Tramping Championships. There is a small variety of amenities available including a shop and pub.
