Knock Fell

Ancient, Roman & Iron Age, Ruins
The summit of Knock fell, a prominent hill in the North Machars, is enclosed to form oval stone walled fort; traces of walls remain on East and West.

About Knock Fell

Knock Fell is seen from many miles in the relatively flat terrain of the Machars. It is approached by a remote farm road. The summit of Knock Fell has been enclosed to form an oval stone walled fort, whose remains are mostly a spread of stones reduced almost to ground level, most clearly on the E and W sides where it is spread to a width of about 10.0m. The fortification is approached through a gap which does not appear to be an original entrance. There are burnt mounds and hut circles in the vicinity and on lower slopes.
