Kirkdale Estate is a stunning coastal Estate situated in Galloway, and has been home to the Hannay family for over 500 years.
Situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, Kirkdale Estate has spectacular sea views across the magnificent Solway Firth. The Estate is part of Galloway awarded UNESCO Biosphere status, which means it is internationally recognised as a world-class environment for people and nature.
Kirkdale is a private working Estate with farming, forestry, magical self-catering holiday cottages by the sea, long lets and renewable hydro power.
The Estate's centerpiece is Kirkdale House, a Robert Adam Georgian mansion built in 1787 and said to have one of Scotland's least altered Adam exteriors.
The Estate has two wonderful, detached, traditional self-catering holiday cottages, each in its own secluded location: Kirkdale Port, which sits magically looking out to sea, and Garden Cottage, idyllically situated with its own private two-acre enclosed walled garden.

Complete with its own two acre private original walled garden for the exclusive use of guests, Garden Cottage offers a complete rural idyll away from the hustle and bustle of your daily life.

The house is a traditional Galloway cottage which nestles magically alongside the walled garden and has been newly refurbished. The sitting-room and master bedroom walls are incorporated within the wall of the garden itself.

The cottage is situated on Kirkdale Estate a private coastal Estate offering walks, beaches, forests, hills and delightful towns all within incredibly easy access. The Estate has been home to the Hannay family for over 500 years.

The walled garden is entirely yours to enjoy. Fruit trees, apple, pear, plums, kiwi adorn the walls. The south facing french doors from the cottage lead straight out from the sitting-room into with the walled garden, with a south facing patio, parasol and garden furniture. The North Wall, which is south facing and where the cottage is situated, averages nine hours of sunshine a day. Average temperatures on the south facing wall are 22 degrees, such a wonderful temperature to enjoy all summer round thanks to the shelter from the four amazing original walls.

There are three bedrooms, sleeping six, with black-out lined curtains to ensure the best possible night’s sleep. The master bedroom has a king size bed and views over the garden. There is a further twin room and the third bedroom also has two full size single beds, one the fun of a mid-sleeper and an additional single bed. The cosy and characterful sitting-room with windows to the garden has a wood-burning stove and french doors providing direct access to the wonderful space of the private walled garden. The dining/kitchen is very spacious with dining table and chairs and window seat alongside a woodburning stove. There is an additional utility room off the kitchen with washing machine, three drawer freezer and second sink.

Free logs and wi-fi are provided. We are family friendly and pet friendly. Enjoy glorious woodland walks directly from the cottage.
