About John Hunter's Gravestone

John Hunter, who was killed for Covenanting activities in 1685, has a grave at Tweedsmuir Kirkyard. There are also three memorial stones in the kirkyard, commemorating him. His grave reads:

"Here lyes John Hunter,
Martyr, who was cruely
murdered at Corehead
by Col James Douglas &
his party for his adherence
to the word of God &
Scotland's Covenanted
work of Reformation 1685
Erected in the year 1726"
