This exhibition celebrates the life and works of James Hogg, 'The Ettrick Shepherd', in the beautiful and remote Ettrick Valley.

About James Hogg Exhibition

The James Hogg Exhibition is housed in the former village school next door to Ettrickhall, where he was born in 1770. James Hogg worked on a farm hence 'The Ettrick Shepherd' moniker and his most famous work, The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner, is important in Scottish literature. Hogg was a lifelong friend of Sir Walter Scott. The exhibition includes exquisite costume figures of Anne Carrick, the Borders Artist who made these her speciality and a mock up of Hogg's study.
