About Henderland Tower

Here James V is said to have hanged Cockburn of Henderland, a noted reiver, over his own tower door. His young wife ran to the waterfall to escape the sounds of him being hanged-and gave us one of the most beautiful of the ballads. The Border Widow's Lament

‘Nae living man, I'll love again
Since that my lovely knight is slain
Wi ac lock o his yellow hair
I'll chain my heart for evermair’
