About Hawick Horse

This impressive statue was unveiled in 1914 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the skirmish at Hornshole. When the youth of the town rode out to challenge some cross-Border raiders. Despite the heroics of the young men the statue, the work of a local man, William Beattie, is universally known as the Horse.
