About Glentrool

At the heart of the Galloway Forest Park, the surrounding area has stunning scenery, with plenty of walking and cycling routes, including the world-famous 7stanes. Picturesque Loch Trool sits beneath the Merrick, the highest mountain in southern Scotland. This is where Bruce's Stone sits, overlooking the site of the Battle of Glen Trool. The visitor centre at Loch Trool has a cosy café open seasonally and within Glentrool Village is the Glentrool Hive, a multipurpose activity and community centre offering light refreshments, showers, toilets, a gallery & craft shop and self-catering accommodation.

Galloway Forest Park is one of the darkest places in Scotland and Glentrool is the only village located within the Galloway Dark Sky Park making it a very special and unique place for stargazers and astronomers.
