About Ettrick

An impressive monument marks the site of the small cottage (long since vanished) where Hogg was born.
A hundred yards further on and Ettrick Kirk looms on the right. Here James Hogg is buried amongst his friends and family including his grandfather, the 'far-
famed Will of Phawhope' and Tibbie Shiel.
"The mighty Minstrel breathes no longer, Mid mouldering ruins low he lies; And death upon the braes of Yarrow Has closed the Shepherd-poets eyes"William Wordsworth.
