Durisdeer Roman Fortlet

About Durisdeer Roman Fortlet

An extremely well preserved roman fortlet, located near to the village of Durisdeer. It consists of a single rampart and an outer ditch, all enclosing a rounded oblong area measuring 31.5m by 18m. It is believed to have been established during the Antonine period after AD 142, and fortlets such as this were used to house detachments from the main forts.
