About Dumfries Martyrs’ Monument

This memorial marks the graves of Covenanters William Grierson, William Welsh and James Kirk. Grierson and Welsh were taken prisoner after the battle of Pentland, and executed on 2nd January 1667, whilst Kirk was shot in Dumfries in 1685. The gravestones were restored in 1873.
