About Drumlanrig Castle & Country Estate

Discover Drumlanrig all year round. From March to the end of October, enjoy the historic Castle Gardens and Adventure Playground. Against the spectacular backdrop of the Castle, adults can explore acres of gardens, browse plant sales or simply relax on benches, while children enjoy the fantastic adventure playground, complete with aerial runways, slides, rope bridges and climbing frames.

After all that activity, unwind in the Larchwood Cabin or Castle Tearoom, and explore the Stableyard Studios, where you’ll find work by local makers and craftspeople – the perfect way to round off your day.

At peak times of the year, immerse yourself in history at the majestic Drumlanrig Castle. Set within the vast Queensberry Estate, complete with a country park and Victorian gardens, this 17th-century castle is one of the most important Renaissance buildings in the country. The Dumfriesshire home of the Duke of Buccleuch, Drumlanrig Castle boasts magnificent rooms and spectacular collections of silver, porcelain, French furniture and art – including Rembrandt’s Old Woman Reading – making it one of the most rewarding and romantic of Scotland’s great houses.

Throughout the year, you can explore the estate on foot, choosing from gentle strolls to more strenuous way-marked trails. The extensive network of paths and tracks ranges from 1.5km to 7km, or you can venture further afield on one of the estate’s e-bikes, available to hire.

Alternatively, discover the estate’s wild landscapes and rich natural history. Keep a lookout for otters, red squirrels and birds of prey, as well as some of the estate’s most impressive trees, including the Drumlanrig Sycamore – one of the oldest in the country – and the very first Douglas Fir planted in the UK.

Add even more to your visit with fishing on the River Nith or in the estate’s well-stocked lochs, or enjoy a thrilling have-a-go clay pigeon shooting experience. And with so much to see and do, why not make a real break of it by staying in one of the estate’s beautiful self-catering cottages and apartments? All are dog-friendly, many feature roaring log burners, and some even come with private hot tubs for the ultimate escape.
