About Dere Street

Dere Street is a section of an old Roman Road in the Scottish Borders. It was built more than 19 centuries ago and is makes up one of the four major roads that the Roman Army built in Britian. Sections can be seen St Boswells and continues to the English border crossing south of Towford. The road runs south over the Cheviots, Dere Street is mostly a broad grassy track, so it is a splendid route for walkers. Nearby Soutra Coffee House is a great place for starting your route and for some sustenance at the end!
