Beside the farm, there is a farm track which leads to Blackhouse B. Here, James Hogg was shepherd for ten years and where he started to write seriously. It is an unfenced hill track about two miles up to the ruined tower; it is suitable for walking but not for cars and definitely no dogs off the lead.
