This is the Inn Scott lodged intermittently for the first four years of his Sherifidom and where he met William and Dorothy Wordsworth in 1803 On this occasion, they did not visit Yarrow

"At Clovenfords, so near Yarrow, we could not but think the possibility of going thither, but came the conclusion of reserving the pleasure some future time, in consequence of which, after our return, William wrote the poem which I hall here transcribe”
